Our Branch Projects and Programs

Bach/Baroque Festival

Branch festival held annually to encourage the study of the music of Baroque composers. Outstanding students are awarded medals; some students are chosen to perform in the Regional Southern California Junior Bach Festival. Keyboard, instrumental and voice students may participate.

California Plan

An educational program that offers an opportunity for provisional teachers to fulfill requirements for active membership.

Certificate of MeritTM Program

Encourages and promotes consistent and conscientious effort on the part of students; rewards meritorious achievement with certificates and special recognition. Students are evaluated by state examiners. Outstanding young musicians are afforded the opportunity to appear on state convention programs.

Composers Today

Stimulates teachers and pupils toward greater creative efforts. Compositions are rated by qualified composers. Prizes are offered; also there is opportunity for performance on the annual state convention program.

Music Students' Service League (MSSL)

Music Students' Service League is a student-run organization that brings music to the community through performance. It is made up of MTAC-OCW students of all levels and disciplines.

Piano Solo Competition

The Piano Solo Competition is an annual event for students studying with active, provisional or student member MTAC-OCW teachers. Repertoire requirements include one work from the Twentieth Century as well as one Classical or Romantic work. Three divisions are based on age. First, second and third place winners from each division are awarded cash prizes and/or gift certificates and invited to play in a special "Winners Concert."

Student Recitals

Provide performance opportunities for students of all levels. Recitals are scheduled throughout the year.

Young Artist Guild

An outgrowth of the Certificate of MeritTM program, through which the most gifted and advanced students are recognized and assisted in statewide semi-professional opportunities throughout their five-year membership privilege.
